Crossing the Border - Information for Travelers from the United States

EVERYONE including children traveling between the United States and Canada by land, sea (including cruises and ferries) or air is required to present a valid PASSPORT or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security to cross the border.

Washington State residents can apply to have their driver's licenses enhanced, allowing for the use of a single, low-cost document for crossing the border between Canada and the US by land and sea. For more information visit this link.

Choosing an Airport

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second busiest airport in Canada servicing an excellent range of destinations.

Depending where you are coming from, some Americans may find it significantly cheaper to fly to Seattle and drive the rest of the way to Vancouver, Canada. It will take about 3 hours to drive from the Seattle airport to our conference hotel in downtown Vancouver, plus time spent crossing the border. Depending on your holiday plans, this may or may not be worthwhile.

Airport Transportation

Our conference hotel does not provide a courtesy airport shuttle to/from Vancouver International Airport. However, shuttle service is provided by a number of private companies. Fares vary based on the size of your party.

Taxis are probably the best option for most families. The ride takes about 30 minutes and costs about $30.00.

We don't recommend using the "Canada Line" rapid rail service between the airport and downtown since the downtown stop is quite a long distance from our hotel and you would still have to use a taxi between the train platform and the hotel.
